Song Review: Voltaire's "Brand New Time"

Written by Logan Carter
Have you ever broken up with someone you were always with and find brand new time you could be productive in but instead you hate the time? Thanks to Voltaire, we have a song to play on repeat and feel deep in our souls. Voltaire recently put out a new song called “Brand New Time”, now to speed you up on this singer, he's a gothic singer/songwriter and author who has amassed a cult following fitting for the king of gothic classic rock. The song follows a man who has just recently got out of a relationship with someone he spent a lot of time with. The song explains the reason, in the narrator's head, of why his partner left and how the void of the relationship has given him brand new time to reflect and understand what went wrong. The song opens with the narrator talking about the things he held back from his ex and the new things they have got now that they aren't together. The narrator, who I'll just call Voltaire, sees how when they were with each other the things that they did and how he bored his ex. This song seems to be spurred on by Voltaire’s ex finding a new guy, as he talks about all the things he's bought and how his ex has a new man and completely new life that he never let them live and how he now regrets not going on trips or doing different activities and in the end making his ex cry. I think this is a really good song and a kind of teaser for maybe a new album soon, I hope. This song does really well for me because i really enjoy Voltaire's baritone bass vocal range. He's super expressive in his voice, you can feel the loneliness he has even if the melody is more upbeat and happy sounding. Voltaire's been in the music business for a very long time, so he knows what he's doing. If you've never heard of him, I recommend looking him up on YouTube. As a closing statement to this love letter to this song, i think it's a really well composed song and I'm excited for what's coming up.
