Smallpools "Stumblin' Home" Single Review

Written by Kaitlyn Monroe
How many of you have heard of the Indie pop band Smallpools? They’re still a growing group and aren’t as recognized as they should be. The band consists of Beau Kuther, the soul pounding drummer, Mike Kamerman, the melodic fused guitarist, and finally Sean Scanlon the energetic, and mind numbing vocalist. Though this is the first time I’ve heard their music, I can tell that they are an energetic band writing heart melting melodies, and stealing listener’s hearts with their catchy taglines. Their new single “Stumblin' Home” proves me right. Released May 25, 2018 by RCA Records, it is one head bopping, foot tapping, hip shaking groove! The band tends to keep their music upbeat, and uplifting. They’re like a cross breed between Walk The Moon, Twenty One Pilots, and American Authors, and if you can imagine them hashing it out together and can hear it working as beautifully as it does then this is the right group for you! I’m quickly falling head over heels for this band and I’m so excited to see of their success with the new single.

Stumblin' Home" stays true to their original sound, which is absolutely fine in my opinion. The group is doing what works for them, and what they feel, and I can definitely be backed up when I say they’re musicians who were made to make song to dance to because on this journey I haven’t stopped moving listening to them! The single starts off slow with heavy autotune, which I’m not a huge fan of but it definitely works to the group’s advantage in this case. They start off with a hollow, rhythmic, steady guitar melody and follow with a solid bumping drum beat. Then they add in the techno good stuff and it pulls it all together. As far as the lyrics go the song is about the chances of love, or even love at first sight but it doesn’t sound like your typical love song. Scanlon sings of his friends coming back into town, as they catch up they complain and chat of their relationships and deem them all doomed and love lost. The group goes out drinking and reminiscing and creating new memories. While out, Scanlon sings of finding himself a new flame amongst the crowd. He’s excited, full of energy, lust, and he’s ready to go. He knows the feelings caused by the mere presence of this person is something he needs, and wants in his life that his current situation isn’t giving him. And he wants it badly. By the end of the night he’s drunk -- of course-- and as he’s “Stumblin' Home.” This fiery dime never leaves his thoughts and he doesn’t want her to. She’s got him caught, hook, line, and sinker. It’s pure undeniable magic and I love it! It puts me in the place of having a new flame, we’ve all been there. We get giddy when we see them, talk about them, or think about them. We think of the “Ifs, ands, and buts” of every interaction with them past, present, and future and it makes our hearts warms.

This single makes you wanna grab that special guy or gal you're crushing on and just run wild into the night, stay out until the sun comes out, and live like it’s your last night alive. We all have a song in mind similar to this, so add this one your list. The tagline “I’m stumbling home, and I’m thinking about cha” sticks to your brain like the sweet melody it brings and when you hear it. I want you to picture those special people in your life smiling, laughing, and living; that’s what I see every time. It’s emotional and heartwarming.

Give this band a chance, if you like to shimmy your hips, and smile to yourself, lSmallpools is your group. Their new single is one of my hot summer hits, and I give it a 10/10 and an A+ for keeping me jamming!

Tyler Carter "Pressure" Single Review

Written by Jade Marshall  A new single “Pressure” by Tyler Carter was released on June 28th. My overall opinion of this song is that it's a really good release. The song is great and it is such a beautiful song in a strange yet wonderful way, it’s one of a kind. The beginning of the song stood out, because you hardly hear the beat in the background but you hear his voice quite strongly, it’s really beautiful. The chorus itself is prominent, as it is saying that he needs someone who will take him as him and not put all this extra pressure on him for not being who they want. “I remember when you told me/I should go back to the old me/Before the Taylor's and the tattoos/Before the Perignon and OG.” This part stands out because it opens ups the song up and tells you right off the back what he wants. “I'm frankensteinin' they wanna put me back in the lab/If I'm gonna be grinding, if I'm gonna be making this skrill/I'm gonna do it my way, bitch get out of ...

Artist Feature: EXNATIONS

Written by Alexis Hodo Indie/pop trio EXNATIONS released their third single, ‘Blank White’ as a final introduction to their first EP Tiny Sound in the Dark . Based out of New York, EXNATIONS have been together for a year and will welcome their first EP into the world on August 24. I wasn’t sure what to expect with their latest single ‘Blank White’ considering I have never heard of the band before. Judging from their neon artwork, slightly reminding me of The 1975, I figured they would have an indie sound to them. The single does well for the vibe of EXNATIONS following their other singles ‘Can’t Get Hurt’ and ‘Never About the Money’ which hold the same sound as ‘Blank White.’ They are different enough in that they showcase the band holds variety in their sound, but similar enough to tell the songs stem from the same project. What I like about ‘Blank White’ is the fun boppy intro the song provides listeners with. After I hear “At the Blank White of the moon” I truly ju...

Atlas Genius concert review

Hello! I have been gone for a while because I'm a lot busier now that I'm in school, but I have a lot of concerts coming up so I will be posting more frequently. I went back to Bottom Lounge in Chicago on October 5th to see Atlas Genius. I do like their music a lot, but I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan. I honestly wanted to go mostly because I fell in love with Bottom Lounge when I was last there to see Andrew McMahon. I always end up liking the opening acts they bring in and I love the intimate atmosphere. I hope to continue going there to discover new music. Half The Animal The first band that opened was Half The Animal. I had never even heard of them before and had no clue what they sounded like. As soon as they started I really got into them. They have an indie-pop sound, which is something I've started appreciating more recently. The lead singer, Chase Johnson, had an incredible amount of energy. He was dancing and getting into the music and the energy fr...
