All Time Low "Everything is Fine"

Written by Cheyenne Davey
Wowie! All Time freaking Low is at it again with another banger! All Time Low, a pop-punk band from Baltimore, Maryland consist of Alex Gaskarth (vocals and guitar), Jack Barakat (bass), Zack Merrick (guitar), and Rian Dawson (drums). The band has been touring the world since 2003 and it doesn’t look like their stopping any time soon. They have a tour this August with Dashboard Confessional and Gnash. They released their latest album Last Young Renegade on June 2, 2017 with Fueled By Ramen. Since then they have been touring nonstop. A few days before they dropped their single Everything is Fine, the band was posting the title on Twitter with absolutely no context. The song was released earlier in other countries and started spreading around quickly. The song was released in America on June 13, 2018. Let me tell you, I jumped right on that. I was stuck in a PCD rut but All Time Low pulled me out of it for a solid 24 hours. My damn, this song is an absolute bop and a half. It has the typical poppy and punk vibe you love from this band. Alex’s vocals are so smooth and soothing. I’m currently at a McDonald’s writing this and it’s taking all my self control to not get up and start dancing and singing to this song. The chorus is relatable, yet also memorable. “Everything is fine and nothing matters/ Weather's always nice inside my head/ I turn my music up so loud/ Tired of bullshit, drown it out/ Everything is fine and nothing matters anyway/ If I don't care”. I find these lyrics hilarious yet meaningful at the same time, which is quite a feat since rarely is something both things. It of course reminds me of the meme of repeating that you’re fine, that everything is fine, even if it’s not. I’m not the only one to think of this meme. The internet immediately started tweeting the dog in the burning house meme to the band, naturally of course. The band enjoyed the memes and was retweeting them. But, on the other hand, the lyrics seem uplifting and meaningful to me. Essentially, everything is fine and nothing really matters, that it’s dependent on your mind. If you have “nice weather” in your mind, the bad things won’t seem as bad. It also lends to the fact that music can help cope and drown out anything you don’t want to deal with in the moment. It is a nice reminder that everything is fine in all honesty. However; the lyrics can also take a darker turn. That nothing matters because you simply stopped caring. More of a depression like state. What All Time Low meant is all up to them and us as listeners and what we take from it. I like to think they meant (and the way I am going to take it) that everything is and will be fine. The music adds to the uplifting lyrics, with the typical summer sound. It sounds like something you would hear in a summer time movie, with everyone at the beach, singing and dancing in the sand. Much like a scene from the Hannah Montana movie, which is what I thought of. I could totally imagine this with Hannah and her crew dancing on the beach in California.

Overall, I adore this single. I will 100% be listening to this all summer long. I don’t like the beach, otherwise you would definitely see me dancing in the sand to this. It’s an honest summer bop just in time for their last short run on Vans Warped Tour and for their tour this fall. I hope to hear more bangers like this from them in then future. Maybe this is a potential tease for what the next album will sound like? If so, I’m totally here for it. Like the single? Catch them at Vans Warped Tour from June 22-24 or catch this in August with Dashboard Confessional and Gnash. And remember, I’m fine, you’re fine, everything is fine.

Tyler Carter "Pressure" Single Review

Written by Jade Marshall  A new single “Pressure” by Tyler Carter was released on June 28th. My overall opinion of this song is that it's a really good release. The song is great and it is such a beautiful song in a strange yet wonderful way, it’s one of a kind. The beginning of the song stood out, because you hardly hear the beat in the background but you hear his voice quite strongly, it’s really beautiful. The chorus itself is prominent, as it is saying that he needs someone who will take him as him and not put all this extra pressure on him for not being who they want. “I remember when you told me/I should go back to the old me/Before the Taylor's and the tattoos/Before the Perignon and OG.” This part stands out because it opens ups the song up and tells you right off the back what he wants. “I'm frankensteinin' they wanna put me back in the lab/If I'm gonna be grinding, if I'm gonna be making this skrill/I'm gonna do it my way, bitch get out of ...

Artist Feature: EXNATIONS

Written by Alexis Hodo Indie/pop trio EXNATIONS released their third single, ‘Blank White’ as a final introduction to their first EP Tiny Sound in the Dark . Based out of New York, EXNATIONS have been together for a year and will welcome their first EP into the world on August 24. I wasn’t sure what to expect with their latest single ‘Blank White’ considering I have never heard of the band before. Judging from their neon artwork, slightly reminding me of The 1975, I figured they would have an indie sound to them. The single does well for the vibe of EXNATIONS following their other singles ‘Can’t Get Hurt’ and ‘Never About the Money’ which hold the same sound as ‘Blank White.’ They are different enough in that they showcase the band holds variety in their sound, but similar enough to tell the songs stem from the same project. What I like about ‘Blank White’ is the fun boppy intro the song provides listeners with. After I hear “At the Blank White of the moon” I truly ju...

Atlas Genius concert review

Hello! I have been gone for a while because I'm a lot busier now that I'm in school, but I have a lot of concerts coming up so I will be posting more frequently. I went back to Bottom Lounge in Chicago on October 5th to see Atlas Genius. I do like their music a lot, but I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan. I honestly wanted to go mostly because I fell in love with Bottom Lounge when I was last there to see Andrew McMahon. I always end up liking the opening acts they bring in and I love the intimate atmosphere. I hope to continue going there to discover new music. Half The Animal The first band that opened was Half The Animal. I had never even heard of them before and had no clue what they sounded like. As soon as they started I really got into them. They have an indie-pop sound, which is something I've started appreciating more recently. The lead singer, Chase Johnson, had an incredible amount of energy. He was dancing and getting into the music and the energy fr...
