Panic! At The Disco Milwaukee Pop-Up Show Review

Promoting the release of their new album "Pray For The Wicked" to be released on June 22nd, 2018, alternative pop/rock band Panic! At The Disco has been putting on intimate pop-up shows at small venues in a variety of cities across America. Not knowing the city/location of each show until about a day before, Panic! fans have been scrambling to figure out cities, locations, and ways of attending these shows. I was lucky enough to attend the pop-up show in Milwaukee, WI yesterday, March 25th, 2018. Having been a Panic! At The Disco fan for nearly 10 years, getting the opportunity to see them in an intimate setting is more than I ever could have hoped for.

Attending this show was a very last minute decision. I didn't find out that their next show would be in Milwaukee until about 11:30pm., and after realizing through Twitter that a pop-up show in Chicago probably wouldn't happen, me and my friend Cheyenne spontaneously decided to drive 3 hours to Milwaukee at 7am to try and see the show. Luckily after correctly guessing that the band would be performing at The Rave, we ended up being 10th and 11th in line for the show (a way better number than I anticipated). Then, a long 6 hours later, it was time to get in line to enter the venue.

I appreciated how organized the numbering system was for the show up until it was time to get our tickets scanned and have pat-downs. We lined up at the door in numerical order and were let in 50 people at a time. Once entering the venue, though, it was hard to keep the numerical system going. The people closest to me were trying to maintain our regular order, but I noticed during the show that some people who I recognized from being in line early on in the day were pretty far back. This wasn't really anything the venue could easily control, I just wish people didn't try to rush in to spots that they clearly weren't early enough for.

As far as Panic's performance goes, they were amazing and energetic (as usual). If you have never seen them live, lead singer and solo band member Brendon Urie is one of the most talented and entertaining performers I have ever seen. With a voice that can fill arenas and a personality that is larger than life, seeing Brendon perform in an intimate setting is an incredible experience that Panic! fans may not see for many years after this. Brendon was also very kind and interactive with the audience, graciously taking artwork and gifts from fans, singing one girl Happy Birthday, admiring tattoos, and shaking hands.

Another noteworthy aspect of this tour is the introduction of Panic!'s new bassist, Nicole Row. After former member Dallon Weeke's left the band to pursue some music of his own, I personally was really upset. Every time I saw Panic!, I always stood on Dallon's side of the stage. I always said hello to him, and he always said hello back and was very nice and interactive with me, so I was nervous about who the band would bring as his replacement. I can honestly say I am more than happy about Nicole being a part of Panic!. She is beautiful and talented, and really knows how to rock out during a show. I am excited to see everything she brings to this band and I hope I get to see her at a show again soon.

The Milwaukee date was on the 10 year anniversary of Panic!'s album "Pretty Odd", but unfortunately Brendon was unable to pay tribute to the album, saying there wasn't enough room on the stage for a piano or keyboard. As I am not a huge fan of "Pretty Odd" myself, I wasn't too terribly upset about this, but I know a lot of fans would have liked to hear a song or two. Brendon also stopped between quite a few songs to talk about memories with former members Ryan Ross and Spencer Smith, or to tell funny stories, such as a time he got high with Snoop Dogg. This made the show even more special in my opinion because this was the most I had heard Brendon talk at a show in the 5 times that I have seen them.

While I was upset that Brendon didn't come out after the show, I am thankful for the opportunity to have been able to see them in a small, intimate venue, as they are one of my favorite bands and small shows are my favorite kind. I will never forget the memories I made on this adventure, or the feeling of screaming the words to my favorite songs, with my favorite band of all time.

Tyler Carter "Pressure" Single Review

Written by Jade Marshall  A new single “Pressure” by Tyler Carter was released on June 28th. My overall opinion of this song is that it's a really good release. The song is great and it is such a beautiful song in a strange yet wonderful way, it’s one of a kind. The beginning of the song stood out, because you hardly hear the beat in the background but you hear his voice quite strongly, it’s really beautiful. The chorus itself is prominent, as it is saying that he needs someone who will take him as him and not put all this extra pressure on him for not being who they want. “I remember when you told me/I should go back to the old me/Before the Taylor's and the tattoos/Before the Perignon and OG.” This part stands out because it opens ups the song up and tells you right off the back what he wants. “I'm frankensteinin' they wanna put me back in the lab/If I'm gonna be grinding, if I'm gonna be making this skrill/I'm gonna do it my way, bitch get out of ...

Artist Feature: EXNATIONS

Written by Alexis Hodo Indie/pop trio EXNATIONS released their third single, ‘Blank White’ as a final introduction to their first EP Tiny Sound in the Dark . Based out of New York, EXNATIONS have been together for a year and will welcome their first EP into the world on August 24. I wasn’t sure what to expect with their latest single ‘Blank White’ considering I have never heard of the band before. Judging from their neon artwork, slightly reminding me of The 1975, I figured they would have an indie sound to them. The single does well for the vibe of EXNATIONS following their other singles ‘Can’t Get Hurt’ and ‘Never About the Money’ which hold the same sound as ‘Blank White.’ They are different enough in that they showcase the band holds variety in their sound, but similar enough to tell the songs stem from the same project. What I like about ‘Blank White’ is the fun boppy intro the song provides listeners with. After I hear “At the Blank White of the moon” I truly ju...

Atlas Genius concert review

Hello! I have been gone for a while because I'm a lot busier now that I'm in school, but I have a lot of concerts coming up so I will be posting more frequently. I went back to Bottom Lounge in Chicago on October 5th to see Atlas Genius. I do like their music a lot, but I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan. I honestly wanted to go mostly because I fell in love with Bottom Lounge when I was last there to see Andrew McMahon. I always end up liking the opening acts they bring in and I love the intimate atmosphere. I hope to continue going there to discover new music. Half The Animal The first band that opened was Half The Animal. I had never even heard of them before and had no clue what they sounded like. As soon as they started I really got into them. They have an indie-pop sound, which is something I've started appreciating more recently. The lead singer, Chase Johnson, had an incredible amount of energy. He was dancing and getting into the music and the energy fr...
